Meet the Team

we would like to introduce you the team who work hard in their own time behind the scenes and without whom we could not progress and continue to do the work we do.

vikkyWhat got you into keeping birds? Animals have always been a great passion in our family, and we are strong beleivers in the fact that when we take an animal into our home, that they are here to stay for the rest of their lives,we had kept dogs for a number of years before we got our first little Green cheeked conure "biggles" some 12 or 13 years ago, whom we still have,he is such a fantastic little character, very comical, and so intelligent, whilst researching about parrots in general before we got biggles, that is when our fascination started in birds and has grown ever since, and we now have 4 african greys, ollie and pingu our companion greys, and mrs and mrs grey, whom both live in an outside aviary, and our most recent addition is a little crimson bellied conure called rio,who we are hoping will eventually become a cage mate for biggles

What’s your favourite species and why? I think my favourite bird has to be the Finch. They are just so full of life. I adore watching an aviary full of these little dots flying around, beeping away, busy, busy. so cute, and beautifully coloured, especially the males with their rosy red cheeks

What does the rescue mean to you? The rescue to me means everything. when the rescue first started,i had no idea how it would go,and to this day cant beleive how big it has become in such a short amount of time,we now boast visitor rate of 30,000 a month on our forums alone I get such an immense amount of pride from seeing the work that we do and the achievements we have made during this time, and we each passing month we are getting bigger and better at what we do,its a lot of hard work and the dedication you need is immense but to know we have turned the lives around for so many birds is a feeling I just cannot describe.

What got you into keeping birds?
I have always taken in the waifs and strays that have come my way, so it was only a matter of time before one would be a bird. My world revolves around them now.
What is your favourite species?
I could not possibly pick one! Parrot species are like pick and mix, each one is unique, but they are all incredibly ‘moreish’ in their own way.
What does the rescue mean to you?
There really is nothing better than knowing you have improved the life of another sentient being. To be able to do that with a group of wonderful people who feel the same way is a true blessing. I feel very honoured and proud to be part of such a warm and caring family, because that is what UK Parrot Rescue is to me.

What got you into keeping birds?

My father bought me my first pair of budgies when I was
seven, to give me an interest and some responsibility, but mainly to keep me off the streets. From there, parrots became a big part of my life. We now keep Caiques to Cockatoo`s

What is your favorite species and why?
It has to be the Pionus, any Pionus really but especially the Maximillion Pionus.
You can only really see why when the sun is shining, the colours that come from that otherwise dull green is definitely magical.
What does the rescue mean to you?
In a word, hope. If not for all the truly remarkable people that we have staff and members alike, there would be little hope for many of the birds that we find loving homes for. I really feel part of something truly amazing

What got you into keepingbirds?
Believe it or not I used to be terrified of Birds!
My first encounter was with an auntie’s cockatiel and I ran screaming into her bedroom and sat there for an hour crying when she let him out! Not long after as a cure my mom bought a canary! To cut a long story short, he got me over my fear, and as a result has always been the one bird I constantly remember and miss!
What is your favourite species and why?
It has to be the African Greys. I have a natural affinity with them, and I feel I can see into their soul.
What does the rescue mean to you?
To be part of such a strong and dedicated team means the world. I help in my own small way, as do we all.Together we can make a huge difference.

What got you into keeping birds?
I started with a pair of Cockatiels called ‘Pie’ and ‘Binka’. Sadly, ‘Pie’ passed away, and ‘Binka’ went to a friends huge aviary with many other Cockatiels. Then I got ‘Oscar’ the Green Cheeked Conure, and after a few years ‘Peeps’ came and they became best friends. ‘Oscar’ died, and ‘Peeps’ nowlives with another Conure. ‘Elmo’ the crazy Caique joined us in October 2007,and ‘Bogie’ the Grey in October 2008!
What is your favourite species and why?

Definitely the Caique, completely bonkers, and permanently on the go.
What does the rescue mean to you?

Everything! I am so proud to be a part of UKPR. Although as the Lost and Found CoordinatorI do get to deal with very upset owners who have lost their birds, we do have success stories of happy reunions. We have a great team, and wonderful members. I always know if I have any problems, bird related or not. There is always someone with great advice, or just to have a chat with about anything and everything!
